Project Description

The Ironbridge Gorge has a fabulous new attraction that shares a fun and intriguing time in history. This attraction shares the story of the Coracle Men of Ironbridge who for generations adopted Coracles to help them through poverty and feed their community. They expertly avoided the law using the river at night and were practical jokers and showman, creating impossible to believe stunts such as the Witch flying over the River Severn.

The Ironbridge Coracle Trust Charity have been working to discover more about their history and bring this story to the public in a fun and unique way

The Coracle Stories Shed is the heart of this story. Funded by Arts Council England, and with support from the Cultural Destinations Project secured by Telford & Wrekin Councils Destination Team working with West Midlands Growth Company this new Shed is at the centre of Coracle making courses & workshops, contain augmented reality experiences & games for the public, provide an insight into this unique time in history with historical artifacts and information and play host to coracle events.

The people of Ironbridge & Telford have rallied to support this project, and today we are hosting an event to share this new attraction with the public for the first time.

This video shares this moment in their journey.
